“Op Goede Vrijdag 3 april 2015 vond het voorjaarsconcert plaats van de Stichting Concert in Tienhoven. Waar in Nederland rond die tijd de passieconcerten welig tieren, koos het Ensemble Lumaka ervoor om een pakket deels minder bekende muziek te presenteren. Vijf musici die individueel en tezamen het spreekwoordelijke dak van het oude kerkje tokkelden, streken en floten. Een betere seizoensafsluiter kon men zich niet wensen. En, welk een opmaat naar een nieuw seizoen….

Tijdens de voorbereidingen en in de pauze heb ik de foto’s genomen van dit Ensemble Lumaka en de majestueuze harp. Wat een intrigerend prachtig instrument! Terwijl de harpiste Miriam Overlach stemde kwamen er ook allerlei mensen naar haar toe met vragen (bij de start, pauze en einde van het concert natuurlijk 😉 ). Zo vaak zie je niet een harp in een kerk…
Ensemble Lumaka
Gelauwerd met diverse jury- en publieksprijzen, o.a. van het Kamermuziekconcours Almere en Het Debuut, met meerdere CD opnames en na diverse optredens tijdens festivals in het binnen- en buitenland behoort Ensemble Lumaka tot de meest succesvolle ensembles van Nederland. De musici van Lumaka zijn verbonden door een samenwerking van bijna tien jaar. Ensemble Lumaka is een muzikaal gezelschap van solisten en musici uit o.a. het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, dat zich toewijdt aan de muziek rond de jaren 1920 van de vorige eeuw.
Hun gedeelde visie op het maken van kamermuziek bestaat uit het doorgronden en analyseren van een stuk en de vrijheid en spontaneïteit voor elke speler. Dit leidt tot oprechte, integere en gepassioneerde interpretaties. Waarom de jaren twintig? In de jaren twintig werd voor het eerst een ensemble in de kwintetbezetting (fluit, harp, strijktrio) opgericht, door de harpist Pierre Jamet. Daardoor is er heel veel mooi repertoire uit het Frankrijk van die tijd. Ook muziekhistorisch gezien is het een erg interessante periode: de laatste staart van de romantiek, de eerste jazz-invloeden, gekke tonaliteit en ritmiek…
De film
Terwijl ik de film voor het Concert in Tienhoven aan het monteren was wilde ik heel graag music eronder die het Ensemble die avond ook gespeeld had. Dus ik ben op internet gaan zoeken naar gratis music van Debussy of een van de anderen. Toen ik het helemaal af had en geupload had naar YouTube, liet ik de film aan mijn vriend zien. Vriend vroeg zich af waarom ik niet muziek van Ensemble Lumaka eronder had gezet. Natuurlijk had ik eerst gezocht op geluidsfragmenten van Ensemble Lumaka zelf, maar die vond ik niet. In elk geval geen downloadbare. Ik trok de stoute schoenen aan en zocht contact op met het Ensemble (ze hadden immers een geluidsopname gemaakt die avond). Ze reageerden heel enthousiast, en hun antwoord was:
“Wat leuk! Hele mooie fotos!! Fijn om het terug te zien en lezen.
En ja, het zou leuk zijn om ook de originele opname te gebruiken!
… komend weekend kan ik er even tijd voor nemen. Is dat goed?”

An impression of a memorable evening with Ensemble Lumaka in the old church in Tienhoven!
“On Good Friday, April 3rd 2015 the Foundation Concert in Tienhoven (classical music in a lovely church) had its spring concert. Where in the Netherlands at that time the passion concerts are played everywhere, the Ensemble Lumaka chose a lesser-known repertoire. Five musicians who individually and together rocked the proverbial roof of the old church. We couldn’t have wished for a better ending of the season. And what a prelude dor the next new season …. 🙂 “
I took pictures during the preparations and during the break of the Ensemble and their majestic harp. It is an intriguing, beautiful instrument! While the harpist Miriam Overlach was tuning her instrument there were all kinds of people asking her questions, this was a the start, break and end of the concert of course. You don’t often see a harp in church.
Honored with several jury and audience awards, with several CD recordings and after various festivals in abroad and at home, Ensemble Lumaka is one of the most successful ensembles in the Netherlands. The musicians are connected by a collaboration of nearly ten years. Ensemble Lumaka is a musical group of soloists and musicians whom devote themselves to music around the 1920s of the last century.
Their shared vision of making chamber music is to understand and analyze a piece and the freedom and spontaneity of each player. This leads to sincere, honest and passionate interpretations. Why the twenties? In the twenties the first ensemble quintet (flute, harp, string trio) was established by the harpist Pierre Jamet. As a result, there are is a beautiful repertoire from France of that time. Also historically music wise it is a very interesting period: the last tail of Romanticism, the first jazz influences, crazy tonality and rhythm …
For the Concert in Tienhoven I made this movie with the photos I took during the preparations for the spring concert. Ensemble Lumaka played beautifully! For music under the movie I found one of the pieces they played that evening free on the Internet.
While I was making the film for Concert in Tienhoven I really wanted music the ensemble had played that night. So I went on the Internet to look for free music of Debussy or any of the others, and I found one of the pieces they played that evening free on the Internet. When I was finished and had uploaded the film to YouTube, I showed my boyfriend. Boyfriend wondered why I didn’t have music of Ensemble Lumaka as a track. Of course I started my search for suitable music looking for sound tracks of Ensemble Lumaka, but I did not find them. At least, none that could be downloaded.I put on “my naughty shoes” 😉 and asked them if I could use their music under the movie (after all, they made a recording that evening). They responded very enthusiastically, and their reply was:
“How great! Very beautiful pictures!! Glad to see it back and read it.
And yes, it would be nice to use the original recording!
… This weekend I can take some time for it. Is that oke?”
